Kingdom of Wonder

Eric and I flew in a small puddle jumper plane from Bangkok to Siem Reap. After a grilling process in passport control we checked in at the Le Meridien. We only had two days and in addition to spending a full day at the Angkor temples we wanted to see the floating village of Chong Khneas. This village is home to over 3,000 families. It was unlike anything I've ever seen and reminded me of the movie Water World. The next day we woke up at 4:30 AM to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat. This was definitely a major highlight. We had an amazing tour guide who took us through all of the temples providing us with so much knowledge and history. He shared insight on the Cambodians history of civil unrest, political instability, destruction and mass execution by Pol Pot. Cambodians have and continue to have a fear of being taken over by neighboring countries. Given the level of poverty and the uncertainty of their future, the Cambodian people we met were so kind, happy and positive. It was truly awakening for us being around them and hearing their story of survival. We spent time taking the Tuk Tuk to the night market where we had fish pedicures, Thai massages, shopped and danced.
